Our Story: How Bahia Was Born
When I arrived in Qatar in 2012, I was captivated by the women around me. Their grace, their elegance, the quiet beauty of the abaya. There was something deeply inspiring in how they carried themselves with such refined femininity and modesty. As a Muslim woman from another part of the world, having grown up between St. Louis in Senegal and Paris, and with my time spent in Italy, I understood the desire for elegance rooted in tradition. My years in fashion, first as a model and then studying design at the Istituto Marangoni in Florence, taught me to see beauty in every culture, every silhouette, every thread. Yet as much as I admired the women of the Gulf, I never felt entirely myself dressing exactly as they did. Something was missing. A bridge between their tradition and my own sense of self.
For ten years, that feeling stayed with me. Then came the idea. What if I could bring together everything I had learned? The craftsmanship of Italian ateliers, the fluid elegance of Gulf heritage, and my own journey as a woman between worlds.
This vision became a reality through my collaboration with Suad, a dear friend and artist of absolute talent. Having learned her craft and Mediterranean embroidery from her grandmother, Suad helped bring to life the first collection of Bahia, fusing tradition and contemporary design.
